Nation (Story)
Nation (Story)Nation
The nation whose people are not ruled by righteousness shall soon be misruled by the unrighteous.
The following is a speech given by a typical president who is being questioned by a reporter about a far-reaching change in the National Security System.
"Because the National Security has been run in its antiquated manner for so long, I am in the process of revamping the whole thing. I believe we shall do much better than the previous administration by redesigning the organizational structure of this powerful vanguard of our nation. We shall, 'Do more, more effectively, more than ever before.' We shall have a system of highly qualified people who shall be able to take appropriate action in any emergency; whatever that may be. They shall be people of outstanding ability, each having the very highest qualifications in their own field of endeavor. We shall act together as a highly trained, close knit organization having but one goal uppermost in our minds. Your safety."
"That sounds very well, Mr. President, but what is going to happen in case of national emergency? Who is going to be responsible for the final decision making process? Should our armies have to be put into motion, who shall have authorization to activate them?
"The final judgment naturally falls upon myself. I shall be the one who makes the critical decision at such times."
"Often you are away, perhaps overseas. Who makes final decisions while you are gone?"
"The person I appoint shall superintend, of course. I shall choose a person who thinks in full accord with myself. One with absolute integrity and undisputed qualifications."
"Would you mind sharing with the millions of people viewing our program this very instant who that person might be?"
"There are several I have in mind at this particular moment. I do not wish to appoint just any person, for such a position of responsibility must be given a great deal of consideration."
"I'm sure the people of the United States agree with that assessment, Mr. President. But I see a problem in that you have begun revamping the old system already. If a crisis were to arise in the United States while you are in another country, who shall manage the system, and which system would have control? The new or the old? There are millions of people, sir, watching this very second, wondering about the program offered them by your administration. Is it adequate?"
"The people of the United States have no cause to be concerned about the internal affairs of our nation. Let all viewing this fine broadcast rest assured every measure is continually taken to protect them. My administration shall live up to its motto of, 'Doing more, more effectively, more than ever before'."
"Perhaps it would be wise, Mr. President, to have the person who is next to you politically head up your new organization. After all, you were both elected to office at the same time and are both representative of our nation."
"You must have just scanned my mind. As matter of fact my running mate was, of course, at the top of my list. I intended on making him temporary head of the department until it was well established, and another would be trained for his duties. I know everyone will be pleased with the idea. The need to brief him in my absence is practically nil so the transition shall be smooth. As I said, there is no need for concern when it comes to the defense of our nation for we are, 'Doing more, more effectively, more than ever before'."
"Thank you, Mr. President, for these informative moments concerning the security of our nation. I'm sure there are those who will sleep more comfortably tonight, resting assured someone is on constant lookout for their safety."
If the election had gone the other way ...
"Sir, our National Security System seems antiquated for our present needs. What is being done about it?"
"Security is not due to a single person or group of people. It is impossible to trust national protection to a person or to an organization, though people and organizations are needed to make things operate smoothly."
"Do you have any proposals to increase the security of our nation, Mr. President, or are things going to be left as they are?"
"I'll tell you what must be done. The people of our nation need to return to the principles that made our nation great in the first place. Our greatness came from our forefathers educating their children to fear and trust the God of the Holy Bible. They were taught about God in public school, where they read the Bible and prayed for our cities and nation every morning. That, sir, is what is needed to advance the security of our nation. My main thrust is to reinstall those principles back into the very fabric of our culture."
"Isn't there the necessity of a committee to examine what we have at present and then advance proposals of change?"
"We have enough committees. We are as strong militarily as the best of the nations. Wars are not won because of an abundance of 'smart' people; organizations, and committees do not win real battles. We have enough of these to fill an ocean. Wars are won by individual people fighting and winning small battles all of their own. A nation is not protected by a group of elite people. It is protected by an army made up of millions of men and women, each fighting for the same objective - truth, truth they know and live. When our army is prepared in this manner, God fights for us. But, should we as a nation reject this precept, then all the best of everything we have shall no longer save us."
"What shall our viewers expect then, Mr. President?"
"Everyone is beginning their day by asking God to give themselves and others about them wisdom to do their jobs the right way. Next, we are going to have Bible reading and prayer put back into our schools where it belongs, so our children learn to know and love the God Who created them and who has made our nation so great. These things are being worked on this very moment."
"What is going to happen should a sudden war arise and you are in another country? An entire army must be activated immediately, and then given proper direction in times of crisis."
"From the human stand point, yes. But this administration trusts God to take charge of our armies as He did with Israel when they obeyed Him. Wars shall come. There shall always be those who love evil and seek to promote death and destruction for their own gain. When such people rise against us, they shall find our armies powerful and ready. But our national goal shall be to promote peace and safety for all people, both here and abroad. I know we shall find the good we seek for our nation and its people, because God shall lead us in the future as He has in our past."
"Thank you, Mr. President. I'm sure people around the world shall sleep better tonight knowing Who it is that protects our great nation."
